Soccaskool Tournament a Great Success

The Okanagan Sun shone brightly for us last weekend as Soccaskool hosted their first ever tournament event at Kelowna City Park.

The tournament was in jamboree format for boys teams in the U9, U10, U11 & U12 Development divisions and we were delighted to welcome academy teams from The Lower Mainland, Victoria, Nanaimo, Vernon & Kamloops. City Park in the sunshine proved to be an excellent venue and we had large crowds come out to watch some excellent soccer.

Our Soccaskool Development Teams, as always, did us proud and competed extremely well playing an attractive brand of soccer and all our games were close and exciting.

Our U9s were unbeaten for the entire year going into the weekend, and once again produced some excellent performances and results but were undone by a fantastic FC Barcelona Escola U9 Academy team which we actually didn’t mind too much as it gives us a higher bar to strive towards ! Congratulations to Barca

Similar story to our U10s, who had an up and down weekend. They produced an excellent battling performance against an older Supra team to come from 2-0 down to tie the match at 2-2 but later under performed against a strong Western Canada Rush team.  Again, we will take the opportunity to learn from this match and continue to encourage our players to understand the importance of pre game preparation. Congratulation to Western Canada Rush !

Our U11s were their usual consistent selves and, despite being low on squad numbers for the weekend, dominated the ball in every match and produced the inevitable results !

Our U12s had the toughest challenge of the weekend, which is how we wanted it to be. Playing against older opponents on the full field in 11 a side format was very difficult for them but they showed great character and determination to battle all weekend & produce some great soccer. This U12 squad is ready for BCSoccer Premier League tryouts !

Overall our tournament weekend proved to be a great success and we will certainly be looking to stage this event on an annual basis moving forward.

Thank you to all the parents for your help & support, to the visiting teams for supporting our tournament & most of all to the players for your efforts in producing some very exciting soccer !

Congratulations Diego

Diego - HPPSoccaskool graduate player Diego was recently selected for the U13 Provincial High Performance Program !

Diego becomes the third Soccaskool player to be selected for the BC Provincial High Performance programs, joining Annika and Camden on that growing list.

We are very proud of our players and we keenly keep track of their progress once they ‘graduate’ from our academy after the U12 year.

At Soccaskool, we choose to measure our success by the number of players that we steer towards the BC Soccer Premier League tryout process. There are currently 11 Soccaskool graduates playing in the BCSPL, and from there we hope that some of them may even become a permanent fixture in the provinces High Performance Programming.

In June next year, all 13 of our 2005 Development Team players will be headed for the TOFC tryouts, and we will be making sure that they are well prepared and capable of achieving success

Soccaskool vs Soccer Quest (Kamloops)

Last week Soccaskool hosted a series of matches here in Kelowna against Soccer Quest Academy, who travelled down from Kamloops. Our U9, U10 and U11 Development Teams each played a pair of matches against their Quest counterparts, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. We watched some great soccer on a beautiful sunny day. There were some excellent moments, some great goals and some outstanding players on show from both academy programs. All of the matches were very competitive and played in a very good spirit. The games were watched by large crowds, who were very well entertained all day !

The highlight for us at Soccaskool was the opportunity for us to play our brand new U9 team in their first ever competitive match and the way they played in that opening match easily surpassed our expectations of them. The pictures above are from that opening U9 match.  Well done to everyone involved !

Parents Comments: Ava has enjoyed playing soccer since she was old enough to kick a ball and her love for the game has steadily grown since. Whether playing in the backyard with her brother Hayden, practicing or competing in games, Ava is always working hard. With the excellent coaching and the Soccaskool community supporting her, Ava’s love for soccer has soared as has her confidence and skill as a player. She is a real joy to watch!

Coaches Comments: Ava has been with us for sometime now but made an immediate impression with her skill level but more importantly her decision making which is as good as anyone’s on the academy.  She continues to improve in all areas of her game which can be attributed to her hard work and excellent attitude and focus during each and every practice !! Keep up the great work Ava !
