Our U10 Development Team was too hot to handle for the TOYSL U11 Development Teams of Salmon Arm and Penticton this weekend. Our passing was crisp, quick and precise throughout the tournament as we swept to comfortable victories in the group stage. Penticton were beaten 8-0, Salmon Arm #1 were beaten 9-0 and Salmon Arm #2 were beaten 8-1. Every single goal that we scored this weekend, without exception, was a result of good play, excellent passing and great technique. Every player in the squad, apart from U9 stand in goalkeeper Presley, got on the scoresheet. We did not score a single goal from either a long ball or a set play, which was very pleasing.
In Sundays final, we beat Penticton 6-1 and picked up another gold medal for our growing collection.
Well done to all of the players, and a big thank you to all of the families for your great support.
Tournament MVP went to Sophia again, she was simply outstanding all weekend !
The last time our U10 development team were at the Coast was in November at the Richmond Thanksgiving Tournament. Playing a year up, we had a very difficult weekend in Richmond and suffered some big defeats in the pouring rain. Last weekend in Surrey we were able to show how far we have come in a short space of time. The U10s produced some excellent, stylish soccer, scored some great goals, and recorded some very good results against difficult opposition.
The first game we played was against Albion Cosmos. The Soccaskool players were excited for this event and could not wait to get started. From the opening whistle we dominated possession and created chance after chance with our slick passing moves. Our players relished the chance to play on a big artificial turf field, and Albion were hardly able to get a touch of the ball in the opening exchanges. In fact, the pattern of the match did not change throughout, and our opponents were somewhat mesmerized by the speed and quality of the play on show. Goals came from Liam, Charlie, Luka, Sophia and Sam, who got the game MVP, in a very comfortable 5-0 win.
The second game saw us up against Vancouver Athletic, a big team with some good players. Our team still had their tails up from the morning game and raced into a 4-1 lead with some more excellent passing and combination play. Goals came from Charlie (2) and Luka (2) and the game looked like turning into a lopsided affair. However, our players lost concentration and began to make bad decisions with a bit of ‘showboating’ creeping into their game as well. Vancouver took their chance to get back into the game and scored a couple of quick goals to pull it back to 4-3, which is how it ended. Soccaskool were comfortably the superior team here, but nearly managed to throw the game away. Narrow 4-3 win, Sam got his second MVP of the day.
Sundays opener was against the host team, Central City Breakers, and Continue reading U10’s Show their quality at The Surrey Mayors Cup

Parents Comments: “Connor is thrilled to be a part of the SOCCASKOOL program. He has found a sport and group that he enjoys very much. He spends his time with the group learning new skills while making some AWESOME friendships. Watching Connor pack his bag each day with enthusiasm to go to practice puts a smile on our faces. Each practice he tells us how he did and what he learned with excitement. When Connor was asked what is something he likes about SOCCASKOOL he says, “Getting better at soccer”.
Coaches Comments: “Connor is one of the most coachable young players I have ever met (and I have met a lot !!) His attitude and work rate are first class. As a result he is probably the most improved player on the excellent U10 Development Team”
This weekend it was the turn of the U10 squad to get their 2016 playing season underway with a pair of matches in Penticton.
We played Soccer Quest Academy, who had made the long trip from Kamloops, in the first game. Soccaskool looked lively from the very beginning and began to control the game very early on. We kept the ball well and created several early chances. One of these fell to striker Liam, who got one on one with the outstanding Quest goalkeeper after about 15 minutes of Soccaskool pressure. Liam is very cool in those situations, and buried it to put us 1-0 up. However, despite several great chances, we were unable to build on the lead in the first half, and were caught napping just before half time as Quest equalized following some poor defending. Half time 1-1.
The second half followed the same pattern of sustained Soccaskool possession and pressure, and excellent defending and goalkeeper performance from Quest. Eventually the pressure paid off as captain Sam and Liam again gave us the goals we needed for a 3-1 win.

Have a look at this video where we highlight Sophia one of our long time academy players and one of our original 20.
We are very proud of Sophia as she continues to develop her game. Her technical skills and tactical knowledge of the game continue to improve at a staggering rate. She is a wonderful example to all our academy players and a perfect demonstration of how “practice makes perfect” as she puts in many hours of practice in her own time.
Also important to point out that at the time of shooting this video, Sophia was 8 years old playing against U11 boys. Very impressive !
